World Riders Rally

Why it starts in Gondramaz.

A village in Portugal’s schist country offers a place to ask a larger question: what happens after a visitor leaves?

A journey becomes more interesting when we stop treating a place as a backdrop. There are people behind every open café, restored house, maintained path and village celebration. Their everyday decisions shape the landscape a rider comes to enjoy.

Gondramaz, in the municipality of Miranda do Corvo, is our proposed point of departure. Its schist architecture and woodland setting connect a striking landscape with the practical realities of rural life. Local and regional sources describe its craft traditions, village renewal and outdoor activities.

Begin with a place you can return to.

For our founder, doctoral study in Coimbra provides a reason to return to the region and develop a longer conversation. World Riders Rally begins with an invitation to listen to local people, understand existing work and explore whether a small riding gathering could be useful.

Our ambition is to connect young riders and creators with people who want to share a place on their own terms. A host might need a clearer English-language offer. A craft maker might want to test a workshop. A rider might discover a reason to stay another night and return the following season.

The invitation is open. The relationships take time.

Our village collaborations are in development. Gondramaz is a founding focus, not a claim that its residents, businesses or public authorities have already joined the initiative. Hosts will help shape any future programme, its scale and its contribution.

We want to document what happens honestly: the useful introductions, paid work, repeat visits and difficult trade-offs. Starting small gives those relationships room to become real.
